Anthony Redmile was a famous designer and collector, known in the 1960s and 1970s for his extravagant taste. His designs incorporate lavish materials, often of organic origin, like mollusc and turtle shells and ostrich eggs alongside semiprecious stones.
On the Redmile scale of things, this piece is rather restrained. The only extravagant element apart from the Ostrich egg are agate cabochons around the bulging central part.
