Marek Żuławski (1908 – 1985), a Polish painter, graphic designer and historian came from an artistic family of artists, film directors and… mountain climbers. He was born in Rome, grew up in Poland, studied in Paris and eventually settled in London in 1937. Żuławski was initially inspired by post-impressionist art but soon after the war he developed his own style. Apart from paintings and prints he completed several large-scale murals in London. Despite leading a life of an expat, he was deeply rooted in his cultural heritage:
'I’m Polish, so all this English stuff is moot to me'.
