The Next Wave, a gogotte

Oligocene period, 31cm, mounted on a contemporary metal stand

Gogottes are rare natural geological formations from the Fontainebleau forest in France. They formed over 30 million years ago in the Oligocene period by silica-rich underground water sleeping through sand during ice ages.

Gogottes take shapes of flowing clouds, bubbles and animals and have long been coveted and sought after. The first notable collection was that of king Louis XIV of France.

This one has been set on a metal stand and makes a real statement in an interior.
